Straight Paths

Solomon pairs wholehearted trust with practical surrender. To "acknowledge" God (Hebrew: yada) means to know, recognize, and submit to Him in every sphere of life. The promise is not of an obstacle-free road, but of a divinely directed one—straight in purpose, aligned with God’s wisdom, and free from the detours of self-reliance.

There are moments when life feels like a maze—so many turns, so many voices, and so little clarity. Our reflex is to analyze more, plan harder, and grip the steering wheel of control. Yet Scripture calls us to a different posture: trust. Trust is not passivity; it is active dependence. It looks like inviting God into the decision before the decision is made, weighing options with Scripture open, and holding outcomes with open hands.

"Don’t lean on your own understanding" doesn’t dismiss wisdom or planning—it refocuses the source. Human insight is limited; God’s wisdom is limitless. When we acknowledge Him in all our ways, He straightens our paths—not necessarily by removing every bend, but by aligning our direction with His will. The straight path is the way of obedience: honest work when shortcuts tempt, integrity when compromise whispers, prayer when anxiety spikes, generosity when scarcity looms, reconciliation when pride resists.

Jesus embodies this trust perfectly: "Not my will, but yours, be done." As we fix our eyes on Him, we learn a rhythm of faith—pray, listen, obey, repeat. Over time, hindsight will reveal what trust sees ahead of time: God was guiding. Doors that stayed closed were mercies; delays that stretched us became training; redirections became testimonies.
